Ain't On His Level- Mr. X
Tariq Albury aka “Mr. X” is indeed a musical force to be reckoned with. Mr. X has been on the Bahamas’ musical scene since he was fifteen (15) and his skill has skyrocketed since then. The hobby of writing words to convey emotions developed into a rap art form. With a new way of expression, Mr. X found another way to communicate to the masses. His ability to string words together leaves the listener eager to hear what the next sixteen (16) bars will be. However, although his music is greatly accepted by his peers, Mr. X does not write solely for others approval.
Mr. X is in many ways like the famous Romantic poet John Keats, who understood the therapeutic qualities of music. As Keats wished to fly away on the “viewless wings of Poesy”, from the mundane and dreary, so does Mr. X. With that in mind, it is no surprise that Mr. X is a front-runner in BASS. He views BASS as a positive force of like-minded individuals that wants to propel rap music to higher heights in the Bahamas. It must also be mentioned that BASS, for Mr. X, is an extension of the rap trio (more like brothers), consisting of Skully and Traviz-the artist formerly known as Big T R.I.P (Respect Is Power)
Although the goal is the same, each BASS member brings something new and exciting to the table. For Mr. X, he cherishes the fact that his music is filled with vocabulary and deeper concepts than the average rapper. In one particular song called “Closer to My Dreams”, which is inspired by the song of the same name by Goapele, he describes the song as, “The song "Closer to my dreams" the song was meant to talk about struggles and obstacles faced coming up in the rap game. "In my verse, I compared myself to a domestic slave working hard just to improve myself, as i thought everyone was against me, and the only ones there with me were my brothers (Traviz and Jared) cause they were slaves in the rap game as well. Rappers just need to think more rather than being so common because eventually people get tired of hearing the same thing over and over again. They lack substance!”
There he goes, challenging others to be the best that they can be. He’s not trying to scare you, he’s trying to prepare you.

Shaddy Boy- In Full Force
Shaddy Boy… is simply the one that doesn’t sleep. Who can blame him? His hustle has no time for it. He craves success like a fat kid… (yes everyone knows the end). Okay, the saying is overused and overdone but it stands true for this young Bahamian rapper-entrepreneur extraordinaire. Ever since he was a little boy, music was an essential part of his makeup. He spent a lot of time with his cousin who was a DJ and as fate would have it, Shaddy came across the late great Biggie’s first LP “Ready To Die” and became forever intertwined in the creativity and workings of Hip Hop music. At first, it started off simply as a hopeless dream. However, what was seen to be unreachable became suddenly in arms reach as Shaddy realised that one of his own, D-Bo (a Bahamian rapper) was signed to Slip N Slide Records in 2005.
This realisation got Shaddy itching to put pen to paper and create good music. During his years in high school at Saint Augustine’s College, he teamed up with other rapper-hopefuls and formed a rap group (now defunct… to my knowledge) called AllStarz. This group had a series of hits on the high school level. He has since moved on and after establishing himself as a solo artist, he joined forces with rappers like himself and formed B.A.S.S. For Shaddy, B.A.S.S. is the machine that he would like to see all members achieve success in whatever they wish to venture into.
When it comes to Shaddy’s artistry, it’s all about being classified as one of the “elite”. And to be classified as such, Shaddy understands well that ‘half-steppin’ is NOT an option. A self-proclaimed perfectionist, he admits to throwing away months of work simply because he believed that it wasn’t up to his standards. With that said, don’t think for a minute that Shaddy isn’t productive. He’s currently putting the finishing touches on his new mixtape entitled, “All Jokes Aside”. The amount of preparation that has gone into this body of work is one that should be applauded. He is eager to get it released so that his fans can once again reconnect with him on a musical level and also, every step he makes is one step closer to being considered as one of the greatest MC’s to walk this eath. Shaddy is coming in full force with an immaculate swagger. Time will tell if the world is prepared. Are you?
Thrilla: There is Nowhere To Go But UP!
Keiran Chase aka “Thrilla” is a Bahamian rapper that has gained the respect of many within the Bahamian music industry. The nineteen year old rapper was always interested in rap music but never took it seriously until the 9th grade at Saint Augustine’s College. Even then, at the age of fifteen, he didn’t have the courage to actually pursue a music career. However, all that changed in late 2008, where Thrilla vowed to live life without regret and “jumped wholesale” into the unpredictable, cut-throat yet also rewarding music industry vowing to make a name for himself.
As one of the founding members of B.A.S.S., Thrilla’s loyalty is rock solid and uncompromising to the BASS vision and its goals. On numerous occasions, his work ethic and organisation skills has been deemed by other BASS members as being very “Diddy-like”. You can say many things about Diddy, but you can never say that Sean Combs doesn’t get things done. With a drive this strong, it will be hard pressed for BASS to lack focus in the days ahead. For Thrilla, BASS is much more than a group or a music clique, but rather an example to the Bahamian people that Bahamians can work together in a cohesive unit. This viewpoint crosses touches on all aspects of Bahamian society and challenges the “foreign is better” mentality of many Bahamians.
When it comes to Thrilla’s music, it is indeed true that the pen is mightier than the sword. His music artfully dodges the mundane and hackneyed of the music world that is sadly becoming the norm. It’s as if, he searches under every crook and cranny of his vast imagination linking the unlinkable in hopes to bring light to a particular issue. He maintains also, his uniqueness as a rapper in that his combination of experiences are like no other and he manages to implement his life experiences into his music. “No one can live my life but me”, he assuringly “and that’s what I offer to my audience”.
Don’t expect to see Thrilla to slow down anytime soon. His current state of mind is making it to the top and he believes wholeheartedly that his hard work will pay off. With his BASS comrades fully supporting his efforts into the rap game, there is nothing stopping Thrilla from getting to “The Top”.

Wrigleys Terminates Chris Brown Contract
LOS ANGELES, Aug 6 (Reuters) - Chewing gum maker Wrigley said on Thursday it had ended a commercial deal with R&B star Chris Brown, following his guilty plea on charges of assaulting former girlfriend and pop star Rihanna.
Brown had been a spokesman for Doublemint gum and his hit song "Forever" was part of Wrigley's advertising campaign.
Following Brown's February arrest on suspicion of attacking Rihanna in Los Angeles on the eve of the Grammy Awards, Wrigley said it was "concerned" by the allegations against him.
Maintaining that Brown, 20, deserved due legal process, Wrigley said at the time it was suspending its commercial featuring the singer until the matter was "resolved."
But with Brown pleading guilty in June to punching Rihanna until she was bloodied and bruised, Wrigley said on Thursday it had "ended" its deal with the singer.
Brown, whose hit songs include "Run It" and "Kiss Kiss," agreed in his plea to serve five years probation and perform 180 days of community service in his home state of Virginia.
Wrigley's disclosure came a day after a judge delayed a sentencing hearing for Brown to make sure his punishment included physical labor such as road cleanup.
